This bespoke HPL building in Mühlhausen shows the form at its best – and adds a walk-through function that turns it into an intelligent spatial solution: the path leads straight through the middle of the house, with the storage space arranged to the left and right of it. Two tasks, one building: circulation and order share the same compact footprint.

Why the flat roof carries the whole look

The flat roof is far more than a stylistic quotation. It keeps the building calm and geometric, lets the clean lines of the walls finish in a crisp horizontal edge, and avoids the visual weight that a pitched roof brings to a small structure. The result is a cubic shed with flat roof that reads as a designed object rather than an off-the-shelf hut – a building that continues the language of a contemporary home instead of interrupting it.

Passage included: short routes across the plot

The walk-through function turns the storage building into a piece of route planning. Instead of walking around the building, you walk through it – from the yard into the garden, protected from the weather and dry. How versatile this principle is can also be seen in our reference of a garden building designed as a passage house with two opposite sliding doors; here in Mühlhausen, the passage is a quiet detail within a larger storage concept. In everyday use the passage changes how the whole plot works: instead of a detour around the building, the direct, sheltered route through it becomes the natural path between yard and garden. At the same time the storage areas on either side stay fully usable, because circulation and stowage never get in each other’s way - even when bulky equipment is stored inside.

The "fantastic outer material": HPL by Trespa

The façade is made of HPL (high-pressure laminate) by Trespa – UV-resistant, frost-proof and impervious to rain. The surface does not fade, dirt is washed away by the rain, and painting or impregnating is never required; the material is calculated for a service life of around 50 years. With a cubic design in particular, this dimensional stability pays off: the precise edges and joints that define the look stay exact for decades.

Made to measure for plot and use

This project was created as a made-to-measure design – floor plan, door positions and passage tuned exactly to the situation in Mühlhausen. That is how we plan every bespoke building: first the use, then the form. Like every model in our garden shed line-up, the flat roof garden shed adapts to the plot, not the plot to the building: an awkward corner becomes shelf space, a needed shortcut becomes the passage, and no square metre is left doing nothing.

The façade colour follows the same logic: over 250 HPL colours and décors are on hand, from calm greys and deep black to warm wood looks, with free samples posted to your home so you can judge the tone in real daylight before deciding. Matched to the house façade, the cube blends in; set in contrast, it becomes a deliberate accent.
