In Heilbronn, a particularly resource-saving construction method was chosen for this project: a garden extension that uses an existing concrete wall directly as its rear wall. By deliberately omitting a separate enclosure wall, the building could be adapted to the masonry with centimetre precision. A key advantage of this design is the continued use of existing infrastructure: elements that were already mounted on the concrete wall remain fully accessible and functional inside the new enclosure. The modern storage facility thus blends in seamlessly with the property boundary and creates valuable usable space without dominating the garden landscape with a free-standing object.
The biggest challenge with extension solutions is providing lasting protection against moisture at the interface with the existing building. Here, the roof membrane was connected directly to the concrete wall using a special wall connection rail and professionally sealed. This method guarantees that no water can penetrate between the masonry and the roof structure, even in heavy driving rain. This clever design creates a completely dry interior space for storing tools and garden furniture. The minimalist look of the flat roof remains undisturbed, as there are no protruding gutters and rainwater is drained away in a targeted manner.
