A garden shed without windows is a conscious choice – and often the right one. This dark grey HPL garden shed demonstrates the advantages of a closed design: maximum wall space for shelving inside, maximum privacy outside, and no view in for prying eyes. What may appear austere at first glance is, in practice, the most practical form of garden shed.

Why no windows? Three good reasons

Firstly, storage space: every window opening takes up wall space – without windows, shelves and hooks can run along all four walls, and the interior space can be utilised to the full. Secondly, security and privacy: what’s stored inside remains your business – no view of bicycles, tools or garden equipment, and no invitation to uninvited visitors. Thirdly, the appearance: the windowless façade creates a continuous, unbroken surface – particularly in dark grey, it forms a monolithic, precise structure that translates modern architecture into a smaller scale.

Light is still included: clever alternatives

You don’t have to do without daylight: depending on the design, skylights beneath the roof edge or simply the open door provide brightness whilst you’re pottering about – and interior lighting can be incorporated into the plans. The difference compared to a window solution: you decide when a view inside is possible.

HPL from Trespa: the monolithic shell

The dark grey façade is made of HPL (High-Pressure Laminate) from Trespa – UV-resistant, frost-proof and rainproof. Dark shades in particular retain their colour permanently thanks to the solid surface: no fading, no repainting; a service life of around 50 years is anticipated. The load-bearing substructure, made from C24 solid structural timber, is statically calculated in accordance with Eurocode 5 – timber protection is ensured by a design featuring adjustable feet and under-ventilation.

With or without windows: you configure it
