A shed with sliding doors – the Cube as a space-saving marvel

Sometimes only a door's width separates a garden cabinet from a garden shed. This Cube in Pforzheim works like a walk-in garden cupboard: a compact shed with sliding doors that extracts more from its small footprint than the arithmetic would suggest. Two large sliding doors open the front almost completely – and behind them lies not a dark storage hole, but a highly organised storage zone in which every square centimetre earns its keep.

The wide opening: everything immediately to hand

The decisive difference from classic tool sheds is the generous opening of the front. Instead of reaching through a narrow door into the gloom, you slide the doors apart and have all your equipment and utensils directly in front of you – from the lawnmower to the watering can. No climbing in, no shuffling things around: comfort in everyday garden life rises noticeably, because the interior works like an open shelf rather than a room you have to enter.

The 50 cm trick: shelf zones on the short sides

A clever planning advantage hides in the position of the doors: the sliding doors each begin 50 cm in from the outer edges. On the short sides of the building, this creates ideal standing zones where shelving systems up to 40 cm deep can run the full height of the interior. No space is wasted on unnecessary walking area – the Cube becomes a maximally condensed order zone for anyone who wants to store a great deal on a compact footprint.

Planned order: a fixed place for every tool

The combination of the wide front and the shelf zones on the short sides invites genuine organisation: long-handled tools find their place beside the doors, boxes and pots stack on the deep shelves, and the lawnmower rolls straight in at ground level. Because everything is visible the moment the doors are opened, things actually return to where they belong – order stops being a resolution and becomes a habit the building itself supports.

HPL by Trespa: the precise, maintenance-free shell

The façade is made of HPL (high-pressure laminate) by Trespa – UV-resistant, frost-proof and impervious to rain. The surface does not fade, dirt is washed away by the rain, and painting or impregnating is never required; the material is calculated for a service life of around 50 years. Its dimensional stability directly benefits the doors: what does not warp still glides cleanly in its track after many years. Good to know: our sliding doors run on the inside and sit around 6 cm inwards for constructional reasons – a detail that flows into the interior planning from the start.

From compact Cube to a tool house with double sliding doors

The principle scales. Our small garden shed is available in standard sizes up to around 4.5 m² and as a made-to-measure build – from the compact Cube shown here to a larger tool house. Position and division of the doors follow your storage plan rather than a catalogue. How two sliding doors shape a bespoke project is shown by our reference of an exclusive tool house with a double sliding door in Ulm.

Discreetly matched to the house or set as a deliberate accent: the choice spans over 250 HPL colours and décors, from calm greys and deep black to warm wood looks – and free colour samples reach your home in advance, so the tone can be judged in your own garden light.
