A corten effect garden shed brings the strong industrial look into the garden – warm, earthy, striking. This project takes a clever route to get there: instead of genuine steel, the façade is made of HPL by Trespa in a corten steel décor. From a distance the difference is barely detectable; in everyday life it is very noticeable indeed – to the advantage of the owners. The building carries all the character of weathered steel, but behaves like the precise, low-maintenance garden building it actually is.
Genuine corten steel develops its patina through rust – and rust rubs off. Anyone who has brushed along a corten wall knows the traces it leaves on clothing and hands. The corten décor made of Trespa HPL behaves instead like every HPL building: a closed, smooth surface, no stains, no after-treatment. The effect stays high-quality and timeless without the typical drawbacks of a genuine rusted façade. Children lean against it, bicycles brush past it, washing hangs beside it – nothing marks, nothing stains. On top come the familiar HPL qualities – UV-resistant, frost-proof and rainproof, calculated for a service life of around 50 years.
One detail of this project shows how individually our planning works. Next to the building, a small rain reservoir was planned in – so the outlet of the internal drainage was set higher, directing the roof water deliberately into the container. Every rainfall tops up the supply, and the watering can is filled a step from the beds – watering water included. The drainage itself stays out of sight: no downpipe on the façade, no visible gutter that would disturb the corten look. Function is fully served; the appearance stays untouched. Details like this are decided at the drawing stage, where they cost a thought instead of a compromise.
The sum of all this is a compact garden building that falls visually out of the ordinary while remaining technically clear and undemanding in daily use. The cubic form gives the lively décor a calm frame; inside, the building offers organised, lockable storage for tools, cushions and garden accessories – everything in its place, everything dry. The load-bearing substructure of C24 structural timber is statically calculated in accordance with Eurocode 5 – timber protection through construction, not through chemicals.
If you love the look, you have the choice with us: the easy-care HPL décor as in this project – or genuine corten steel with its living, changing patina. Our garden sheds come in standard sizes and made to measure, and we advise you on which material variant suits your location and your expectations. The décor stays exactly as it is on day one; the steel never stops changing. Both are legitimate answers – the right one depends on how you want to live with the material.
The corten steel décor is only one of over 250 HPL colours and décors – from white via steel grey to wood and stone effects – and free colour samples reach your home in advance, so you can judge the rust look directly next to your house façade and planting. Against fresh green, the warm décor develops exactly the contrast that makes corten so popular in garden design.
Every building is developed in-house and manufactured in Germany, with delivery across Europe. On request our own assembly team erects the shed on site – or you take over yourself, guided by a detailed step-by-step assembly video. Would you like the corten look without rust stains?
