Storing toys in the garden rarely fails because of the children's goodwill – it fails because there is no proper place for them. Sand toys, balls, the ride-on car and the water pistols wander off somewhere every evening, where they get wet or lie in the way. In this project, a weatherproof outdoor toy storage box creates that fixed place: close to the play area, big enough for the whole fleet, good-looking enough for the terrace. Tidying up stops being a discussion and becomes part of the game. The route from lawn to lid is short, the motion is simple, and the evening ends without a search party for the favourite digger.
A toy box for outdoors has to be usable by small hands. The lid height here is chosen so that children can look inside and tidy up themselves – no climbing, no calling for help. Inside, the box deliberately stays open: one large compartment swallows bulky things from the balance bike to the paddling-pool kit, without shelves that would only be in the way. Whatever shape the day's toys take, they fit. The open interior also grows with the children: what holds sand moulds today holds footballs and swim gear in a few summers.
Because the box closes tightly, the contents stay dry and clean – after a wet week just as after a single downpour. The difference is felt the next sunny morning: the sand toys are ready, the ball is not soggy, and nothing has to be dried on the terrace railing first. For toys that live outside all summer, that reliability is worth more than any extra feature. It also spares the improvised solutions – the tarpaulin, the laundry basket under the eaves, the crate in the hallway – that never really worked anyway.
Knocks from the ride-on car, sand in the lid, blazing sun: the HPL panels by Trespa are impact-resistant, UV-resistant and frost-proof. The surface does not fade and simply wipes clean; painting is never required. So the box still looks like new after years of play – and later, when the children have outgrown it, it simply carries on as a cushion or equipment box. A piece that changes its job instead of being replaced. The robust surface takes the treatment children hand out and asks for nothing in return beyond an occasional wipe.
Every one of our garden storage boxes is built in the size your space allows – as a flat chest next to the sandpit or as a large box at the edge of the terrace, on request with a seat lid that turns storage into a bench. The garden decides the format: where children play, where adults sit, where the box is easiest to reach with full hands. Garden toy storage works best when it stands exactly where the toys actually land. If the spot changes as the children grow, the box moves with it – it is a piece of furniture, not an installation.
For the surface, the whole family can vote on a favourite from over 250 HPL colours and finishes – from child-friendly bright tones to shades that quietly match the façade – and free colour samples are sent to your home before anything is decided. Bold colours mark the box clearly as the children's own; a matched tone lets it disappear into the terrace picture.
The box is developed and manufactured in Bavaria, Germany, and that experience shows in the details children never notice and parents always do: a lid that closes properly, edges without splinters, a body that stands firm. Every box leaves the workshop fully assembled and is delivered by specialist carrier – ready for the first game the day it arrives, with delivery available across Europe.
