A designer garden shed in a cube design proves that storage space need not be a compromise on style. This project in the rear garden showcases the cube in its purest form: an anthracite-coloured HPL façade, precise edges, a flat roof – and a sliding door that perfectly rounds off the clean, minimalist look. The structure blends into its modern surroundings without imposing itself on the scene.
The sliding door glides parallel to the façade and, when open, does not protrude into the outdoor area – no door leaf swings out over flowerbeds or paths. Particularly in the rear garden area, where paths are narrow and space is at a premium, the Cube thus gains a noticeable degree of freedom of movement. Good to know for planning: our sliding doors run on the inside and, due to their design, are set back by around 6 cm – this needs to be factored into the layout from the outset.
Paving slabs have been laid all the way round the garden shed. The surrounding area serves as an access point, manoeuvring space and work area – for minor repairs, for temporarily storing furniture or simply as a dry path around the house. In this way, the Cube is not simply ‘placed’ amongst the greenery, but is integrated into the garden’s architecture: a detail that makes the difference between a makeshift solution and a well-thought-out design.
The HPL façade from Trespa is designed for long-term outdoor use. The surface remains dimensionally stable and colourfast, even when the garden shed is used as storage space all year round: no fading of the anthracite colour, no warping of the sliding doors, no painting required – it is estimated to have a lifespan of around 50 years. The load-bearing substructure, made from C24 solid structural timber, is structurally engineered in accordance with Eurocode 5.
Our small garden shed forms the compact basis of the Cube concept – available in standard sizes and made to measure, with hinged or sliding doors. Our showcase of a modern garden cube demonstrates how the cube with a square floor plan looks as a freestanding structure.
