A garden shed with a Corten steel finish brings a distinctive industrial look to the garden – warm, earthy and striking. This project takes a clever approach: instead of real steel, it uses HPL from Trespa in a Corten steel finish. From a distance, the difference is barely noticeable, but in everyday use it’s very clear – much to the owners’ advantage.
Genuine Corten steel develops its patina through rust – and this leaves marks. Anyone who has ever brushed past a Corten wall will be familiar with the marks left on their clothes and hands. The Corten steel finish made from Trespa HPL, on the other hand, behaves just like any HPL garden shed: a sealed, smooth surface, no stains, no maintenance required. The effect remains high-quality and timeless, without having to put up with the typical drawbacks of a genuine Corten steel façade. Added to this are the well-known HPL properties: UV-resistant, frost-proof, rainproof – with a calculated lifespan of around 50 years.
One detail of this project illustrates just how bespoke our design process is: a small rainwater reservoir is planned next to the garden shed. The outlet for the internal drainage system has therefore been raised so that rainwater from the roof is channelled directly into the reservoir – including water used for watering the garden. The drainage system remains hidden from view: no downpipe on the façade, no visible guttering that would detract from the Corten steel look.
The result is a compact garden shed that stands out visually, yet remains technically straightforward and uncomplicated. The cubic shape provides a calm backdrop to the vibrant décor; inside, the shed offers organised, lockable storage space for tools and accessories. The load-bearing substructure, made from C24 solid structural timber, is structurally calculated in accordance with Eurocode 5 – timber protection through design, not chemicals.
If you love this look, we offer you a choice: the low-maintenance HPL finish, as seen in this project – or genuine Corten steel with its vibrant patina. Our reference project, a Cube tool shed in genuine Corten steel, demonstrates the effect of the steel variant. Our garden sheds are available in standard sizes and made to measure – we’ll advise you on which material option suits your location and requirements.
The Corten steel finish is one of over 250 HPL colours and finishes – ranging from white and steel grey to wood and stone effects. We’ll send free colour samples to your home in advance so you can assess the rusted look right next to your façade and plants. We design every garden shed ourselves and manufacture them in Germany – with delivery across Europe and assembly available on request. Over 2,000 completed projects and a 5-star rating from more than 220 Google reviews speak to the care we take.
