Anyone who takes the protection of their heat pump seriously thinks of more than just aesthetics: units installed outdoors are exposed day in, day out to hail, driving rain, UV radiation and falling leaves – and they are both visible and audible. This project showcases the cladding for a large heat pump made from weather-resistant HPL: a neat enclosure that tidies up the area, softens the unit’s appearance and protects both the surface and sensitive components from direct exposure to the weather and environmental factors.
Hail, in particular, poses a real risk to freestanding heat pumps: bent fins reduce performance, whilst dents in the casing remain permanently visible. The HPL (High-Pressure Laminate) enclosure from Trespa acts as a barrier – with an impact resistance of over 40 newtons, the material withstands hailstorms without flinching. It is also UV-resistant, frost-proof and rainproof: the surface does not fade in the sun, and dirt is washed away by the next rainfall. There is no need for repainting or further treatment; it is designed to last for around 50 years.
Protection must not compromise functionality: an air-source heat pump requires unobstructed airways; otherwise, its efficiency drops. That is why slats are integrated into the casing to ensure the supply and exhaust of air. During the planning stage, the necessary internal clearances around the unit are calculated automatically – ensuring there is sufficient space between the heat pump and the cladding for air to circulate.
Ease of maintenance was a key consideration in this project. In the event of servicing, the two louvre elements at the rear are loosened and removed using a total of six screws; the cover can then be pulled straight forwards over the unit. This means the heat pump remains accessible from all sides, without the technician having to work their way through narrow openings. The process takes around 15 minutes – offering maximum flexibility for maintenance and repairs, without compromising protection in everyday use.
Heat pumps vary considerably in size depending on the manufacturer and performance class – this project showcases a deliberately generously sized design. Our cladding for heat pumps and air conditioning units is therefore always made to the exact dimensions of the unit, regardless of the manufacturer, and is available with or without rear panelling and slats. Enter the dimensions of your unit in the configurator; internal clearances and the price are calculated automatically. A more compact design is shown in our reference example of a heat pump cover in anthracite.
Whether you want the enclosure to blend into the background or stand out as a distinct cube: you can choose from over 250 HPL colours and finishes – ranging from white through shades of grey and anthracite to a wood-effect finish. We’ll send free HPL colour samples to your home in advance. We design every enclosure ourselves and manufacture it in Germany – with delivery across Europe and installation available on request. Over 2,000 completed projects and a 5-star rating from more than 220 Google reviews speak to the care we take.
