A heat pump cover with louvres performs a double duty: it takes away the visual dominance of the technical appliance in the garden or against the house wall, and it protects it from weather and damage at the same time. This project shows a grey HPL surround with integrated ventilation slots – clear, cubic and placed so naturally that it might have been part of the building all along. Where a white technology block with a fan used to catch the eye, a calm, straight-lined body in grey now stands.
The first rule of every surround of this kind: the appliance must be able to breathe freely. An air source unit draws in large volumes of outside air and blows it out again cooled – obstruct that flow and efficiency falls. Precisely for this reason, ventilation slots are integrated into the body, securing the necessary air routing without costing the surround any of its presence or robustness. During planning we calculate the internal clearances to the appliance automatically, so enough room remains for circulation between machine and panels – and the access an engineer needs for servicing is preserved as well.
Outdoor units are visible, reachable – and in urban settings that can make them a target. A massively built HPL surround raises the threshold considerably: anyone standing in front of it recognises at once that nothing here is easily moved. Anchored additionally to the foundation, the surround becomes an effective safeguard against theft and wilful damage. Add the everyday weather protection – hail, leaves and dirt strike the cover instead of the fins of the appliance – and the case is complete.
The surround is fabricated from HPL (high-pressure laminate) by Trespa, the material that defines all DESIGA products. It is UV-resistant, frost-proof and rainproof: the grey surface does not fade in the sun, and the next rain washes dirt away. With an impact resistance of over 40 Newton, the material withstands hailstrike unimpressed. Painting and after-treatment are permanently unnecessary – the calculated service life is around 50 years, so the surround ages no faster than the house it stands beside.
Heat pumps differ considerably in size from one manufacturer to another. Our made-to-measure heat pump covers are therefore always built to the dimensions of the specific unit – brand-independent, whether narrow, wide, squat or high. In the configurator you simply enter the measurements of your appliance; the necessary internal clearances and the price are calculated automatically, with or without a rear panel and louvres. How flexibly the system handles unusual formats is shown by our reference of a high, slim made-to-measure surround.
The grey shown here settles unobtrusively between façade and planting – and if you would rather match the surround to your house more closely, over 250 HPL colours and décors stand ready, from white through steel grey and anthracite to wood-effect. Free colour samples reach your home beforehand, so the final choice is made against real light and real surfaces.
Every DESIGA surround is developed in-house and manufactured in Germany. It leaves the workshop fully assembled and arrives by specialist carrier – ready to use from the moment it is set down, with delivery available across Europe.
