A tall heat pump cover for high, slim units

A tall heat pump cover solves a problem that many modern appliances bring with them: they are high, they stand in plain view beside the house or terrace – and they look like foreign bodies there. In this project, a made-to-measure surround in anthracite encases the tall unit completely. The technical tower becomes a calm, cubic element that settles into its surroundings without restricting the function of the system in any way. Freestanding and self-supporting, the surround needs no wall behind it – it stands wherever the unit stands, and it stands well.

Vertical presence, handled quietly

Height is precisely what makes an unclad unit conspicuous: it rises above planting and railings and draws the eye from every angle. The surround answers with the same verticality, but in a composed form – one clean volume, one colour, no visible technology. What was once the first thing a visitor noticed becomes a discreet part of the garden's background, and the space around it immediately feels more ordered. The anthracite chosen here supports that effect: a deep, even tone that holds its own beside greenery and modern façades alike without ever demanding attention.

Air must flow: louvres and clearances planned properly

A heat pump lives on the volume of air it can move. The louvred front of this surround keeps the route for intake and exhaust air open, and in the planning we allow for the clearances the manufacturer specifies for the appliance – as well as free access for maintenance. Clad never means boxed in: every side can be executed so that an engineer reaches the system without difficulty whenever a service is due. Protection and performance are planned together from the first drawing, not traded off against each other afterwards.

Where standard products stop short

Off-the-peg enclosures often end exactly where modern air-to-water units begin. Because we fabricate every DESIGA heat pump cover to measure, the height of the appliance is simply irrelevant – the cover grows precisely with it, in width and depth just as in height. Awkward positions, tight passages or a boundary close behind the unit are design parameters for us, not obstacles. HPL instead of timber or metal: weatherproof without upkeep

The surround is made from HPL (high-pressure laminate) by Trespa. The material is weatherproof, UV-resistant and frost-proof – it does not warp, does not rust and never needs painting. Rain washes dirt off, and the surface stays colour-stable for decades. The enclosure thus remains exactly as maintenance-free as the heat pump it protects: two pieces of long-term equipment, neither of which asks for your weekend. Compared with timber, there is no sanding and no re-oiling; compared with metal, no corrosion creeping in at the edges after a few winters.
