Anyone wishing to build a garden shed onto their garage usually has a very specific area in mind: the narrow strip between the garage wall and the boundary of the plot, which is otherwise of little practical use. This small garden shed demonstrates how this can be transformed into fully-fledged storage space – as an extension with a custom depth, designed precisely to fit the existing gap. The shed remains compact, yet creates a noticeable gain in space in an otherwise difficult-to-use corner of the house.
Standard garden sheds regularly fail in such situations – too deep, too wide, too high. This model has therefore been manufactured with a custom depth: the body utilises the available space next to the garage exactly, without protruding beyond the building line. Inside, shelves and hooks organise the space neatly for tools, boxes and accessories – an astonishingly large amount of organised storage space is created within a small footprint, right where lawnmowers and bicycles are needed anyway.
A distinctive feature of our garden sheds is the internal drainage system. The roof has a single-sided pitch, but rainwater does not drain away via a visible pipe on the façade; instead, it is channelled downwards along the interior wall. Depending on the situation, the water can be channelled directly into the foundations – provided a drain is fitted – or it discreetly flows outwards about 20 cm above the ground. From the outside, the appearance remains clean: no visible guttering, no downpipe at the corner, no traditional garden shed look. Despite the slope, the cube remains square – a crucial design distinction, particularly when situated next to a garage with clean lines.
The façade is made of HPL (High-Pressure Laminate) from Trespa – UV-resistant, frost-proof and rainproof. The surface does not fade; dirt is washed away by the rain, and it never needs painting or waterproofing; it is designed to last around 50 years. This means the extension does not age any faster than the garage to which it is attached. The load-bearing substructure, made of C24 solid structural timber, is structurally calculated in accordance with Eurocode 5 – with adjustable feet and under-floor ventilation to protect the timber.
Our small garden shed is available in standard sizes up to around 4.5 m² – and, as shown here, as a bespoke design with a custom depth, width or height. Another example of an extension to an existing building is our case study of an attached garden shed in Augsburg-Bergheim. You can choose from over 250 HPL colours and finishes – we’ll send colour samples to your home free of charge.
