Anyone who takes the protection of their heating technology seriously thinks beyond looks. An outdoor unit stands in hail, driving rain, UV radiation and falling leaves every single day – and a big appliance is both visible and audible wherever it is placed. This project shows a large heat pump cover made from weatherproof HPL: a clean surround that brings order to its corner of the plot, softens the visual weight of the machine and keeps its surface and sensitive areas out of the direct line of weather and environmental wear. The bigger the appliance, the more valuable that combination of calm appearance and everyday protection becomes.

Over 40 Newton: material that takes hail seriously

Hail is a genuine risk for freestanding units. Bent fins reduce performance, and dents in the casing remain visible for good. The surround made from HPL (high-pressure laminate) by Trespa places itself in between: with an impact resistance of over 40 Newton, the material shrugs off hailstrike. It is also UV-resistant, frost-proof and rainproof – the surface does not fade in the sun, and the next shower washes dirt straight off. Painting and re-treating are permanently off the list; the calculated service life is around 50 years.

The air path stays open – the unit keeps breathing

Protection must never compromise function. A heat pump that draws its energy from the air needs unobstructed air routes, otherwise efficiency drops. Louvres are therefore integrated into the surround to secure both intake and exhaust, and the necessary internal clearances to the appliance are calculated automatically at the planning stage – leaving reliable space for circulation between machine and panels. The appliance works exactly as its manufacturer intended; only its appearance changes. Efficiency and protection are planned together from the first sketch, not traded off against each other afterwards.

Fully accessible for servicing in around 15 minutes

Ease of maintenance was central to this project. When an engineer is due, the two louvre elements at the rear are released with six screws in total and lifted away; the hood then slides straight forward over the appliance. The unit becomes workable from every side – nobody has to reach through narrow openings. The whole procedure takes around 15 minutes, giving maximum flexibility for servicing and repairs without weakening the everyday protection by a single millimetre.

Built to the dimensions of the appliance – deliberately big here

Heat pumps vary enormously in size depending on manufacturer and output class, and this reference shows a deliberately generous format. DESIGA heat pump covers are always fabricated to the dimensions of the specific unit – independent of brand, with or without a rear panel and louvres. You enter the measurements of your appliance in the configurator, and internal clearances and price are worked out automatically. Colour is chosen last but matters greatly at this scale: more than 250 HPL colours and décors run from white through greys and anthracite to wood-effect finishes, and free samples are posted to your home so the decision is made against your real façade and garden light rather than a catalogue page. Whether the cover should recede or quietly assert itself is a decision you make at home, sample in hand.
