A black garden sauna is perhaps the boldest design statement one can make in a garden – and this project makes that statement under the Mediterranean sun. The black outdoor sauna, made of HPL with panoramic glazing, is situated in Mallorca and combines two contrasts: the deep, dark, precise exterior shell and the warm, light timber interior. Between them lies just a glass front – and a view out into the garden.

Black under the Mallorcan sun: a question of materials

Black, in particular, faces the toughest challenges in Mediterranean conditions: intense UV radiation, heatwaves, salty air – the material is put through its paces. That is why we use only materials that can withstand precisely these weather conditions – first and foremost HPL (High-Pressure Laminate) from Trespa, our material of choice for robust, durable and low-maintenance outdoor products. The black won’t fade, and the surface remains sealed – so you can spend your time admiring the garden through the panoramic glazing, rather than treating the façade. You’ll never have to do that with our sauna.

Wood on the inside, HPL on the outside: the tried-and-tested combination

Inside, the timber cladding creates a warm, tranquil sauna atmosphere, whilst outside the weather-resistant HPL cladding protects the structure – a combination designed for long-term outdoor use. The structure retains its shape despite the contrast between the heat inside the sauna and the weather outside; it is designed to last for around 50 years.

Panoramic glazing: the garden as a backdrop

The large glass front turns a sauna session into a panoramic experience: Mediterranean greenery, evening light, a starry sky. Our garden sauna is manufactured in Germany and delivered throughout Europe – including Mallorca. Our team takes care of the on-site installation; you get to perform the first infusion. For the exterior cladding, you can choose from over 250 HPL colours and finishes – from deep black to a Corten steel finish; we’ll send free colour samples to your home.
