This roof terrace in Hamburg shows the clear contrast between a conventional wooden solution and the modern tall cabinet made of weatherproof material. While the old wooden model right next to it already shows signs of instability and crooked doors due to weathering, the new tall cabinet offers lasting dimensional stability. Especially in exposed locations with high humidity and changing temperatures, wood quickly reaches its limits in outdoor areas. The new cabinet does not require regular painting and still closes precisely even after years of use, reliably protecting its contents from Hamburg's driving rain.
The tall cabinet blends seamlessly into the existing design with large planters in terms of colour and form. With a width of only 60 cm, it makes optimum use of the existing niche on the roof terrace without obstructing the passageways. The clean lines create a tidy appearance and noticeably organise the space. As with all projects, production only began after the detailed approval drawing to ensure that the dimensions would fit exactly on site. The result is a functional storage space that visually blends in as an integral part of the architecture.
