Anyone looking for a contemporary garden shed will find a fine example in this project from Göggingen of what timeless design can achieve in a garden. The modern gazebo made of HPL stands in the green with a calm, cubic form, as if it had always belonged there – not a rustic hut, but a precisely crafted building that picks up the design language of modern homes and carries it into the garden. For us, this project is also a home game: every DESIGA garden building is developed right here in Augsburg.
This gazebo does without everything that often makes classic garden sheds feel heavy and fussy: no decorative trims, no glazing bars, no pitched roof. Instead, it offers straight edges, calm surfaces and a flat roof with a crisp, clean finish. This reduction makes the building a natural companion to contemporary garden design – the puristic shed blends in seamlessly and quietly lifts the appearance of the whole plot rather than competing with the planting around it.
Access is through a smooth-running sliding door. Compared with conventional hinged doors, this saves valuable space outdoors, because no door leaf swings open into the garden. Especially on compact urban plots like those in Göggingen, every square metre counts: the path in front of the shed remains freely usable at all times, and beds, lawn and seating areas can move closer to the building without ever being in the way.
Behind the calm façade sits a well-considered interior with generous storage for garden furniture, high-quality tools and barbecue accessories. The building works just as well as a stylish technology hub for a robotic mower and irrigation equipment – or as a small hobby room with its own quiet order. Because the interior is one clear, rectangular volume, shelving and hooks can be arranged exactly the way your gardening life demands.
The façade is made of HPL panels (high-pressure laminate) by Trespa – weatherproof, UV-resistant and frost-proof. Steady Swabian rain, summer heat, snow on the roof: the surface keeps its flawless appearance without ever being painted, sealed or impregnated, and the material is calculated for a service life of around 50 years. While painted timber sheds demand a fresh coat every few seasons, this façade is simply washed clean by the rain.
Behind the panels, a load-bearing substructure of C24 structural timber carries the building, statically calculated in accordance with Eurocode 5. Timber protection is achieved through the construction itself rather than through chemicals: adjustable feet level the shed precisely even on imperfect ground, and ventilation underneath keeps moisture permanently away from the frame. The result is a garden building that still stands straight and true after many years of service.
The shed is available in standard sizes and as a genuine made-to-measure build when your plot has its own ideas – an awkward corner, a boundary, a passage that must stay clear. Width, depth, height and the position of the sliding door follow your requirements; an overview of all models and dimensions can be found in our garden shed range.
For the surface, more than 250 HPL colours and décors are on offer, from calm greys and deep black to warm wood looks – and free colour samples are delivered to your home, so your favourite can prove itself against house and garden before you decide.
Every DESIGA garden building is planned in Augsburg and manufactured in Germany, then delivered across Europe. On request, our own assembly team erects the building on site; alternatively, a detailed step-by-step assembly video guides you through self-assembly.
