We’ve all been there: at some point in winter, you just want to pop out to take the rubbish out, so you slip on your slippers and leave the house without a jacket – after all, how long can it possibly take, right? But when you get to the bin, the lid won’t budge an inch: it’s frozen shut. On top of that, there’s what feels like a metre-high blanket of snow that needs clearing away first. And where’s the snow shovel? That’s right: in the locked garage. So you push the snow aside with your forearm and then, with your blood pressure rising, yank and shake the frozen bin lid...
