Modern heat pumps are growing more powerful – and noticeably bigger. This XXL heat pump enclosure demonstrates that even the largest outdoor units can be given an elegant frame: a large-format cladding made from HPL that visually tames the imposing block of technology and shields it reliably at the same time. Instead of a dominant piece of plant equipment, a calm, precisely made cube now stands in the outdoor space – proof that scale and restraint are not opposites.
Whether the unit is positioned in front of the house or behind it, the effect is the same: what used to read as machinery now reads as a deliberate element of the garden. Crisp edges, flush surfaces and a quiet geometry give the cladding the character of a small piece of design rather than a screen hastily put up around a fan. For a unit of this size, that shift matters – the bigger the appliance, the more an untreated view of it dominates its surroundings.
An air source unit lives on unobstructed airflow, so the enclosure must never smother what it protects. The louvred front of this XXL build ensures optimum air circulation, while the open rear keeps the technical function completely untouched. A recommended wall clearance of at least five centimetres guarantees smooth, steady air routing, so intake and exhaust never work against each other. The heat pump performs exactly as before – it is simply better dressed.
The cladding is made from HPL (high-pressure laminate) by Trespa, with a weatherproof surface that requires no care or coating whatsoever. UV radiation, frost and driving rain leave the material unimpressed, and hail strikes the robust panel instead of the sensitive fins of the unit behind it. The calculated service life is around 50 years – the cladding ages no faster than the house it stands beside, and it never asks for a paintbrush along the way.
Made to measure comes as standard. Thanks to individual fabrication, the cladding adapts exactly to your appliance rather than forcing your appliance into a catalogue size. In the online configurator for our heat pump cover range you simply enter the dimensions of your unit; the necessary internal clearances and the price are calculated automatically, with or without a rear panel and louvres. A large heat pump housing built this way never means compromise sizing – it means exact sizing. In this XXL project that meant taking the dimensions of the existing unit as the fixed starting point and building the enclosure around them, rather than trimming the technology to suit the cladding.
From measuring up to delivery, the entire project stays in one pair of hands – one point of contact from the first enquiry to the finished build standing straight and true in the garden.
The surface is part of the same care: more than 250 HPL colours and décors are available, from quiet, recessive tones to confident accents – and at this scale the choice deserves attention, because a surface this large sets the tone for its surroundings. Free colour samples are posted to your home, so you can hold your favourite against the façade and the light of your garden before deciding.
