An extra large garden shed has to reconcile two opposites: it should offer as much room as possible without overwhelming the garden around it. This XXL project in deep anthracite shows how that balance is struck – with a generous footprint, a clear cubic form and a surprising amount of glass. Despite its size, the dark building remains visually calm and never pushes itself into the foreground: it provides space, opens up possibilities and leaves the garden design its freedom.
The generous glazing in toughened safety glass gives the building an unexpectedly light appearance – the large façade dissolves into alternating planes of glass and anthracite instead of standing there as one massive wall. Inside, the glazing creates a bright, friendly room: daylight falls deep into the interior, you keep an overview of everything stored there, and even when the building is used to capacity it never feels dark or cramped. Even if you are only tidying, sorting or doing smaller jobs, you do it in pleasant light.
The size opens up uses at which compact tool sheds fail: bicycles and the lawnmower next to a workbench and a full wall of shelving, garden furniture in winter storage next to a hobby corner. The interior can be zoned into distinct areas – storage here, working there – and it grows with your requirements instead of feeling too small after two years. That is the quiet luxury of the XXL format: you never have to choose what stays and what goes. If you want to take the XXL format even further, combine it with a roof overhang: our reference project of a garden shed with a long overhang serving as a carport shows what that looks like.
With large façade areas, freedom from maintenance really counts. The outer skin of HPL (high-pressure laminate) by Trespa is UV-resistant, frost-proof and rainproof – the anthracite does not fade, rain washes dirt away, and painting is never required. Anyone who has ever repainted a large timber shed knows what that means over the years; the material is designed for a service life of around 50 years. The load-bearing substructure of C24 structural timber is statically calculated in accordance with Eurocode 5 – with the spans of an XXL format, not a detail but a precondition.
Our large garden shed is available in standard sizes up to around 13.5 m² – and beyond that as a genuine made-to-measure build when your plot asks for more. You can browse the full garden shed range and pick the format your plot calls for. Floor plan, the arrangement of windows and doors, the extent of the glazing and the colour are all defined together during planning, so the finished building fits your garden instead of the other way round. An awkward boundary, a sloping hedge line, a passage that must stay clear – the dimensions simply follow.
Colour is part of that same conversation: choose from over 250 HPL colours and décors, from light tones to deep black and wood-effect finishes, and we post free samples to your home so you can hold your favourite against the house façade and the greens of the garden before you commit.
Every DESIGA garden shed is developed in-house and manufactured in Germany. Delivery runs throughout Europe, and if you wish our own assembly team erects the building on site – or you assemble it yourself, following a detailed step-by-step assembly video at your own pace.
